What must be ready before exporting
Windows and .NET
Use Windows 10 or Windows 11 with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.x installed.
TIA Portal V17–V21
Install Siemens TIA Portal V17 through V21 and the matching Siemens TIA Openness components.
Openness permissions
The Windows user must belong to the Siemens TIA Openness user group and have the required access to the engineering environment.
Open project
Open the target project in TIA Portal Project View before attaching the exporter. Review the selected project and block list before export.
Export process
Export one block or all supported XML objects
Open the TIA Portal projectUse Project View and confirm the correct project and PLC are available.
Run the attachment testVerify that TIA Openness can access the open engineering session.
Load the PLC block listInspect the blocks detected by the utility, including objects inside nested folders.
Choose the exportUse Export one block for the selected block or Export all XML for blocks, Tag Tables, and PLC Data Types.
Review the organized outputCheck the Blocks, TagTables, and PlcDataTypes folders and review a diagnostic report if a problem occurred.
Using the exported XML
Siemens XML exports can support source review, documentation, structured analysis, version-controlled engineering workflows, and preparation for PLC code conversion.
To create Rockwell-oriented deliverables, select one valid OB, FB, or FC XML block and upload it to the online converter. The result is a ZIP package containing the L5X output, review report, and text fallback.
Review exported data. Confirm that the expected objects were exported and that every XML file belongs to the correct project version before analysis or migration work. Protected or inconsistent objects may not be exportable.
Installation
Install the Windows utility
- Download the ZIP package.
- Extract the ZIP file.
- Run
ConvertAutomation_TIA_XML_Exporter_Setup_0.3.13.exe. - Follow the installation instructions.
- Open TIA Portal and load the required project in Project View.
- Start ConvertAutomation TIA XML Exporter.

TIA XML Exporter questions
Can I export all available PLC blocks?
Yes. The utility supports exporting a selected block or the available block list and creates a report for blocks that could not be exported.
Does it upload my TIA Portal project?
No. The exporter runs locally on Windows and does not automatically upload the TIA Portal project to a cloud service.
Is it required for Convert Automation?
Not when you already have a compatible single-block XML export. It is recommended because its consistent output reduces compatibility issues, and it will be required by workflows that depend on its Tag Table, PLC Data Type, and UDT exports.
